Installing your box shelf

What you'll need:
- Drill
- Stud finder
- Screwdriver
- Level
- Hammer
Start by taking off the included cleat from the back of the display. Unscrew the two Phillips/cross head screws labeled "remove." You won't need those screws anymore--they're only used for transport.

Prep the wall
Locate and mark any studs on the wall you want to hang the shelf on. If you have steel studs (typically found in city apartments), I'd recommend avoiding the studs. If you have wooden studs, it's nice to have solid wood to screw into--and you won't need an anchor in that spot.

Mark screw locations
The easiest way to mark where the screws will go in the wall is to drive the screw into the cleat so that just the point sticks out (anchor screws will go in the holes labeled "anchor"). Then line up the cleat on the wall where you want to hang the shelf and push down so the protruding screw(s) mark the wall.
I like to install only the center screw first, so I can rotate the cleat to level it to find the final locations of the left and right screws.

With the cleat in the location you want, press down so the screw point marks the location on the wall.
Install anchors
With location marked, drill a hole for the anchor and install the anchor (plastic anchors pictured here).

Once your center anchor is installed, you can screw in the cleat with the middle screw and level it by rotating it left or right.

Once level, drive in screws on both left and right anchor holes just enough so they poke holes in the wall where they land.
Then remove the cleat and install remaining anchors where your left and right screws marked the wall.
You can then screw in the cleat with all 3 screws.
Please note if a screw lines up with a wooden stud, please make sure the screw is long enough to reach into the wood or use a screw that is long enough. You can skip the drywall anchor in that spot.

Hanging the box shelf
Once the cleat is installed, it's as easy as sliding on your box shelf from the top.

Quick tip: make sure your box shelf is flush against the wall and has seated fully in the cleat by gently pushing down from the top.
